Premarin

Many women struggle with a deficiency of estrogen, a female sex hormone which helps control many different female bodily functions. It can be caused by a number of occurrences. Potential causes include receiving a hysterectomy (a surgery wherein the uterus is removed), the onset of menopause and a natural inability of the body to regulate estrogen levels, even in youth.  Possible symptoms that suggest an estrogen deficiency are hot flashes (you may become overheated and sweat profusely for no apparent reason), vaginal dryness (which may manifest as a lack of natural lubrication during sex, which makes sex painful if not supplemented), and strong mood swings. Women with this condition may be prescribed Premarin, which is basically a dose of the estrogen hormone – but better.

First, you should take stock of the dangers. For one, Premarin use has been linked, in certain cases, to a heightened risk for dementia and heart trouble. In fact, if you have had heart attacks or strokes, your doctor may advise that you skip Premarin all together (there are other medications to take that either provide more estrogen or help manage the symptoms). You should also look for alternatives if you have had certain cancers – particularly breast or uterine cancer, because they both affect the hormones in your body. Yet another group of women should avoid the hormone – pregnant women. This is because it could lead to serious birth defects if taken while you are carrying a child. It might even cause a miscarriage. All of these risks are serious, and even if your doctor things you qualify for Premarin, he or she may ask to continue monitoring you for changes. This monitoring may happen every few months or so. It can also be supplemented with brief lump check, conducted by yourself in a mirror every few weeks.

Many people who have chosen to take Premarin have been satisfied with the results. One woman, for example, expressed her conviction that Premarin is the best estrogen supplement available, even if it can be somewhat expensive due to insurance issues. While others still left her vulnerable to sporadic incidents of hot flashes and moodiness, Premarin effectively solved these problems. For her, the best aspect of Premarin was its ability to mitigate the mood swings and protect her interpersonal relationships. Yet another woman (who required Premarin because of a hysterectomy) explained that her quality of life was drastically improved, to the point that she wanted it even after a doctor explained the inherent health risks associated with the drug. Living without the positive and steadying benefits of Premarin was cumbersome, uncomfortable and prone to hot flashes. And, another woman still described her happiness with her apparent lack of side effects. Although there were some mild occurrences – a general unease that quickly passed – they were nothing compared to the harsh, skin-damaging effects of other estrogen alternatives.

Each woman is physically different and may respond differently to the estrogen. You should watch your own body and make your own opinion about how well you adjust to the drug. Do a simple analysis of your life before and after. If your quality of life is improved, then you may want to use it despite the risks. However, if you feel worse after beginning the treatment (especially if the feelings continue more than a month after starting), then you may well want to stop taking it and try a different estrogen supplement.
