What’s the Matter with Lipitor
As you may know, it is important to regulate the cholesterol levels in your body. Too much bad cholesterol can lead to poor health, including heart trouble and increased risk of stroke. Thankfully, science has provided everyone with options for staving off cholesterol issues – it has provided medication such as Lipitor, which reduces cholesterol levels. You may also find it on the shelves under the name atorvastatin, which is the active ingredient in Lipitor. The good news is that you already know the benefits of taking it: lower cholesterol! But if you are investigating the drug it is important to know both the pros and the cons. So what are the side effects of this medication (and how bad are they?).
Most of the mild side effects can be found in any drug you take – even Advil or Tylenol. It includes headaches, drowsiness and in some instances, problems with the liver. No problem here, really, as they are all mild. However, in some instances a small side effect can grow into something much larger and more dangerous. If you experience pain, sensitivity and other weird feelings somewhere on your body, discuss the possibility that you are having a bad reaction to Lipitor. Signs that the problem could be severe include dark-colored stool, stomach cramps, vomiting and exhaustion. Likely, you will need to stop taking Lipitor for the foreseeable future in those circumstances. A doctor may be able to provide a good alternative.
At some point, you may need to consider whether or not taking Lipitor and experiencing a lot of side effects is worth the benefit which the drug provides. In general, it is, mostly because allowing heart medication to go unchecked can to contribute to heart attacks and strokes.
