Bactrim
Let’s face it: by the time you’re an adult, you are ready to be done with acne. It makes sense. You’ve already paid your dues as a teenager to the skin god, popping pimples before you leave for school and rubbing on outbreaks in the hopes of drying them up before they ruin your perfect prom night. By the time you grow up, your hormones are mostly in check and you expect that your face will quickly follow suit… but it doesn’t always. Over-the-counter drugs sometimes just don’t cut it. You’re too old to be facing such difficulties, so your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic that will kill the bacteria causing your outbreaks. One such example is Bactrim.
Like its fellow antibiotic Accutane, Bactrim is a strong drug which should only be used when you have tried the safe alternatives and found them wanting – or when your acne breakouts are severe enough that waiting or playing a game of trial and error is unacceptable.
Bactrim is so strong because it actually contains two separate but equally important antibiotics: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Both work on their own to kill bacteria but when combined because extra powerful. Generally, Bactrim is used for severe bacterial infections but it can also be used to treat acne. A large number of those who have used Bactrim have expressed satisfaction with the treatment. Within a couple of weeks of having begun taking it, they have noticed a large change in their appearance.
Of course, there are potential side effects. They include skin rashes and digestive discomfort. If they get too severe, you should stop taking Bactrim and it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor before you even start taking it.
